A distinguished retired Urology Consultant from Sweden. He continues his notable work in the field, treating patients biweekly with the renowned CoreTherm® Concept. Dr. Schelin has been at the forefront of transformative innovations in urology. He is the mastermind behind the groundbreaking ProstaLund temperature Feedback Treatment (PLFT®)/CoreTherm® introduced in 1998. This pioneering technique seamlessly incorporated calculations of intraprostatic blood flow, presenting real-time accumulated “cell kill”, thereby tailoring Transurethral Microwave Thermotherapy (TUMT) to individual patient needs.
Further bolstering his legacy, Dr. Schelin unveiled the Schelin Catheter® in 2003. A revolutionary transurethral device, it facilitates sterile intraprostatic injections of local anaesthesia coupled with adrenaline, resulting in rapid, pain-free outpatient treatments. His ingenuity didn’t stop there. He introduced an alternative secondary treatment endpoint that considers energy dosage in relation to baseline prostate volume. His fourth invention, the CoreFlow Soft Stent®, eliminates the need for an indwelling catheter, facilitating spontaneous micturition and, when necessary, antegrade self-catheterization. It also offers an innovative “Stent test” to predict treatment outcomes.
Collectively, these monumental inventions converge to form the CoreTherm® Concept, the focal point of today’s discussion.
